
IN FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
IFE serves as the central system within the in-cabin intelligent ecosystem deployed by AERQ. This innovative system is designed to transform the in-flight experience into a more intelligent and streamlined process. Within this framework, passengers benefit from a seamless boarding process, enhanced post-flight connections, personalized entertainment experiences, and the ability to communicate with flight attendants at any time. The goal is to elevate every aspect of the in-flight journey to a smarter and more tailored level.
Project Description
In this project, my primary responsibility involved collaborating with the product manager to define user scenarios clearly. I played a crucial role in visualizing the features and interface to ensure alignment with the identified user scenarios. This collaboration aimed to create a harmonious integration of functionality and design, enhancing the overall user experience within the intelligent in-cabin ecosystem.
I created a comprehensive design foundation by generating a color palette rooted in Lufthansa's brand colors. Additionally, I meticulously considered various color applications, font styles, and typography, drawing inspiration from the company's existing products and the broader system employed by Lufthansa. This approach aimed to ensure visual consistency and a cohesive design language across the IFE system and align it seamlessly with Lufthansa's overarching brand identity.
In addition to these efforts, I crafted a teaser to showcase some of the key product features. This teaser serves as a compelling introduction, providing clients and leaderships with a sneak peek into the innovative functionalities and offerings of the product.
The smart in-flight experience
We segmented the voyage into distinct stages, meticulously designing product functions and usage scenarios at each step, driven by user needs. The in-cabin journey we developed offers a comprehensive and user-centric roadmap, ensuring that the product aligns seamlessly with passengers' requirements at every critical stage of their travel experience.
Boarding

In the boarding phase, a cordial welcome message is showcased on all IFE system screens throughout the cabin. The interface background features a captivating carousel displaying the scenic views of the flight destination, contributing to a visually engaging and immersive experience for passengers.



Settling in

Once passengers are seated, the system prompts them to share their preferences and wishes, ensuring a personalized content experience later on. The options are presented through chip buttons, and in the background, faded pentagons serve as a visual representation, displaying the passengers' selections. This interactive and visually dynamic approach enhances the overall engagement and tailors the in-flight experience to individual preferences.




Upon passengers selecting their preferences for exploration during the flight, the homepage content is dynamically configured to align with their choices. The preferred content takes center stage, appearing prominently on the top card, while other options are still presented in the form of cards with a lower priority. Additionally, the system features a dedicated kids' interface, allowing adults in adjacent seats to customize the content for a child's entertainment, enhancing the overall in-flight experience for families.




Cruise

During the cruise stage, passengers' primary concerns revolve around flight arrival time, remaining flight duration, and catering services. Building on the existing IFE system's common functions like the route map and flight information, we introduced a catering schedule displayed on the route map with corresponding icons. The system strategically pushes the food and drink menu at appropriate times, enabling passengers to review and place orders in advance. Flight attendants, armed with order information, can efficiently distribute meals, markedly improving both passenger experience and the efficiency of the service. This contrasts with the traditional method of flight attendants pushing a trolley and individually querying each passenger, presenting a significant enhancement for all involved.



The system actively tracks passengers' activities and intuitively pushes their preferred content at the opportune moments based on their browsing history. For instance, during nighttime if the system detects ongoing passenger engagement, it anticipates and pushes activities aligned with their potential preferences, such as meditation, movie-watching, playing chess, and more. This personalized and proactive approach enhances the in-flight experience, ensuring that passengers receive content tailored to their preferences and the time of day.


In addition to conventional entertainment, the system offers enriching activities such as highlighting notable landmarks the plane passes on the flight map. It presents timely cards, encouraging passengers to explore further details about these landmarks. Furthermore, the system displays the carbon emissions of the flight and utilizes daily routines for comparison, fostering passenger awareness of sustainability. Passengers can also opt to compensate for the carbon emissions they generate, contributing to a more environmentally conscious and engaging in-flight experience.


The system features a distinctive visual design: its theme color dynamically adjusts to the ambient light outside the cabin. For instance, during dusk, the theme transforms into a sunset color palette, at night it adopts a black theme, and in the morning it shifts to a dawn color scheme. This adaptive visual approach enhances the overall in-flight ambiance, creating a more immersive and harmonious experience that aligns with the external lighting conditions.



Landing

Prior to landing, passengers have the convenience of securing reservations for post-landing connections, booking tables at local featured restaurants, and receiving city tour recommendations—all within the cabin. This seamless integration of services ensures that passengers can plan and enhance their post-landing experience effortlessly, making their transition from flight to destination as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

As previously mentioned, beyond the entertainment system, this intelligent cabin ecosystem encompasses a crew collaboration system and a designation system. To vividly illustrate the key features and convey the product concept, I crafted a trailer for these systems. This trailer serves as a compelling visual narrative, effectively showcasing the innovative functionalities and the comprehensive vision behind the smart cabin ecosystem.
